Hybrid training… something for everyone, any time, anywhere

Last week was a bit of a mix of work but there was still a fair bit of sitting still at a laptop. One thing I did really notice during the week though was how important it was to keep fitting in bits of movement while I was doing all that desk-based organising. Even just getting up, moving around, doing something different for a bit. And what really stood out was how much I enjoy having variety in what I do.

For years the fitness world has kind of pushed the idea that you should pick one lane. Do one sport and stick with it. Lift weights and that’s your thing. Or be a runner and just run, and then everything else sits somewhere in between — Pilates, classes, home workouts, all of that.

But that’s never really been me. In both my own training and in what I teach, I’ve always been a bit of a jack of all trades.

My own training is usually a mix of walking outdoors, pole, aerial hammocks, Pilates and weightlifting. Some days I feel like I want to train properly and lift something heavy, some days I want slower movement and a bit more control, and sometimes I just need to get outside and clear my head for a bit. That mix has always worked well for me, and to be honest it reflects real life a lot more too.

That’s a big part of why the approach inside FlightFit is built around more of a hybrid style of training. There are the online workouts you can access anywhere, but I also really encourage people to include face-to-face classes and outdoor movement as well, which you can log in the tracker on the app. Because not every day looks the same, and your training doesn’t need to either.

Some days you want the energy of being in a room with other people and being coached through something. Other days you want a bit of solo time and a walk to reset your brain. And then there are the days where meetings run late, or the day just gets away from you, and suddenly getting to a class isn’t happening.

That’s where having options really helps, because instead of feeling like you’ve missed it and the day’s a write-off, you can just jump online and do something. Even if it’s only ten minutes, it still counts, and more importantly it keeps you in the habit of moving.

That’s one of the biggest reasons variety works so well. It takes away that all-or-nothing feeling that a lot of people get stuck in with fitness.

Inside the platform there’s a mix of sessions depending on what you feel like or what your body needs that day. Sometimes it’s step or aerobics when you want something a bit more upbeat, sometimes weights-based HIIT when you want to feel strong and work a bit harder. There’s also Pilates and yoga for those slower, more controlled sessions, plus kettlebells, core and strength workouts. And they range from shorter sessions around ten minutes right through to about forty-five, so you can usually find something that fits into your day.

Over the years, one thing I’ve noticed again and again is that people don’t fall off track because they’re lazy. Most of the time it’s just because fitness stops fitting into their life for a while. That’s where this kind of hybrid approach can make a big difference.

It keeps things interesting, it helps with motivation, and it makes it a lot easier to keep showing up — even during busy weeks or slightly chaotic ones.

And in the long run, consistency beats perfection every time.
